CNAPS hosts Saskatchewan Premier in D.C.

On Tuesday, February 27, CNAPS Executive Director Jamie Tronnes and CNAPS contributor Anthony De Luca-Baratta hosted a delegation of political and business leaders from Saskatchewan in Washington.

Led by Premier Scott Moe, the delegation embodied the cross-border integration of virtually every sector of the Canadian economy.

It included industry leaders with operations in both the United States and Canada in the energy, agricultural, and critical minerals sectors. The delegation was accompanied by the distinguished former US ambassador to Canada and CNAPS advisory member, Amb. David Wilkins.

Jamie Tronnes briefed the delegation on the tensions between the Trump administration’s desire to build a secure, energy-dominant North America, and its tariff threats against Canada and Mexico.

She also spoke about how Saskatchewan in particular is well poised to trade an ample bounty of goods, such as agrifoods, critical minerals, energy, lumber, and uranium to consumers around the globe.

Despite the high demand for all of these products in the US, she outlined that tariffs will make these products more expensive for everyday Americans, as it is ultimately the consumer who ends up paying the cost of the tariff.

This material is distributed by CNAPS on behalf of the Macdonald-Laurier Institute. Additional information is available at the Department of Justice, Washington, DC.
