On May 21, 2025, MLI Board Chair Gerry Protti and CNAPS Executive Director Jamie Tronnes attended the US Oil and Gas Association’s Annual General Meeting.
The Secretary of the Interior, Doug Bergum, talked about the forthcoming rapid increase in demand from the AI sector, and how America’s energy producers will be called upon to increase energy production.
Mr. Protti highlighted the significance of Canada’s contributions to the energy security of North America. Canada’s heavy crude is a necessary ingredient to the US oil refining process, the export of which earns American companies enough profit to offset trade deficits with Canada.

Canada’s natural gas reserves offer a massive energy asset to meet the demand coming from American AI servers as they strategically compete with China for AI dominance. America needs Canadian energy to maintain energy dominance.
The US Secretary of Labor, Lori Chavez-DeRemer, spoke about the importance of skilled workers and training the next generation of tradespeople to take North American Energy Dominance into the 21st century, something that many educational institutions in Canada have been prioritizing.
